Speculation grows that MLB draft pick Logan Schmidt could reach campus and transform LSU’s pitching staff

LSU’s top incoming pitching signee Logan Schmidt, drafted 59th overall by Cleveland, has not yet agreed to terms, and local media are openly discussing the real possibility he will honor his LSU commitment instead.[12] With Cleveland reportedly limited to about $1.7 million in remaining bonus pool money and Schmidt seeking significantly more, LSU baseball circles are treating his sign-or-show-up decision as program-altering draft drama.[12]

Curiel says LSU program just getting started

LSU sophomore outfielder Derek Curiel, the No. 5 overall pick in the 2026 MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates, said in a Sunday interview that the Tigers’ program “isn’t stopping anytime soon” and is “just getting started.” His comments highlight the continued LSU-to-Pirates pipeline after he developed into a top prospect over two seasons in Baton Rouge.
